Human Middle Ear Anatomy Based on Micro-Computed Tomography and Reconstruction: An Immersive Virtual Reality Development

چکیده

Background: For almost a decade, virtual reality (VR) has been employed in otology simulation. The realism and accuracy of traditional three-dimensional (3D) mesh models the middle ear from clinical CT have suffered because their low resolution. Although micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) imaging overcomes resolution issues, its usage platforms limited due to high computational requirements. aim this study was optimize high-resolution 3D human model suitable for viewing manipulation an immersive VR environment using HTC VIVE headset (HTC Valve Corporation, USA) enable seamless anatomical visualisation experience while preserving accuracy. Methods: A reconstructed micro-CT data with 28 μm voxel were optimised by tailoring surface polygon counts, file size, loading time, frame rate. Results: optimized surrounding structures (polygon counts reduced 21 million polygons 2.5 million) could be uploaded visualised at 82 frames per second no VR-related motion sickness reported. Conclusion: High-resolution can visualized after optimisation. To our knowledge, is first report on overcoming translational hurdle applications VR.

Computed Tomography Staging of Middle Ear Cholesteatoma

BACKGROUND To establish computed tomography (CT) staging of middle ear cholesteatoma and assess its impact on the selection of the surgical procedure. MATERIAL/METHODS Prospective study was conducted on 61 consecutive patients (mean age 26.8 years) with middle ear cholesteatoma. CT scan of the temporal bone and surgery were performed in all patients. CT staging classified cholesteatoma accord...

3-D computed tomography reconstruction: another tool to teach anatomy in the veterinary colleges

This letter underpins the use of three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) reconstruction as an aid to teach veterinary anatomy. Cases were presented to students in order to observe normal and clinically abnormal patients. The images provided excellent details of relevant structures and could serve as a tool for teaching anatomy. Many sources describe different options to enhance anatomical...

Neurophysiology-based art in immersive virtual reality

Virtual reality (VR) art often deals with issues of embodied interaction vs. the fantasy of disembodiment: on the one hand, unlike traditional desktop computers, VR allows full-body interaction; on the other hand, VR allows one to experience disembodied presence in an immaterial, abstract space. Our recent research projects allowed us to reach a new extreme of such disembodied VR experiences, w...

Walking in an Immersive Virtual Reality

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects on gait induced by a completely immersive Virtual Reality (VR) with and without perturbation. Ten healthy subjects were analyzed during over-ground walking in different conditions: standard gait, VR gait and perturbed VR gait. Results showed that subjects immersed in the virtual environment walked slowly, with decreased cadence (-13%) and str...

Immersive Virtual Reality on commodity hardware

The use of Virtual Reality (VR) is normally associated with expensive, high-performance computing and graphics systems. This is especially the case in immersive VR systems that support head-tracking, hand-tracking and stereo vision. This causes a difference between the capabilities of VR facility centres with their high-end equipment and small/medium sized businesses and research groups that us...
